Concept & Execution
Requiem in Progress 5/2/25 was an immersive sound work and participatory piece exploring themes of memory and grief. The audience were invited to participate by washing stones as an act of remembrance.

I sought to use lighting to foster a meditative atmosphere. Two LED panels provided soft illumination, ensuring visibility without overpowering the space. A cold white spotlight focused on the water pool.

When participants washed stones in the pool, the water surface was disturbed, resulting in shifting reflections on the walls, set features and people in the space, reinforcing the themes of this work; transience and remembrance.

Problem Solving & Adaptation
No rigging points were available in the space. I made use of decorated ladder to secure the spotlight. This integrated this aspect of the lighting more 'organically' into the space. I felt this solution enhanced the visual composition, while evoking an ethereal, contemplative tone.

The balance between controlled brightness and natural movement of reflected light offered a sense of stillness and reflection. This aligned with the minimalist, poetic aesthetic of the performance.
