V & A is an intimate dance performance exploring gender identity, self-discovery, and transformation. It follows a boy’s journey into manhood, his sexual awakening, and his realization that he wants to dress as a woman. The piece culminates in a powerful mantra, “I am I, I am I, I am I,” reinforcing the theme of self-acceptance.

The lighting design was crafted to support the emotional and physical evolution of the protagonist. A cool, saturated blue wash was used to established an intimate, introspective atmosphere. I wanted to create a dreamlike space for the character's self-exploration. Spotlights were used to isolate key moments, enhancing the performer’s physicality and internal struggle. As the narrative unfolded, warm hues emerged, to depict growth, liberation, and transformation.

A large-scale projection in the background provided a dual perspective. I sought to contrast the performer’s live presence with an externalized reflection of identity. The immersive lighting and projection combined with the intension of blurring the lines between reality and self-perception. This was intended to allow the audience to witness both the struggle and triumph of self-acceptance.
