Set Designer & Protagonist: Sheron Luo

The set I designed for Straw in the Wind was multifunctional, and could seamlessly transition between two distinct environments: the robot’s house and the robot’s bar.
I was attempting to create a sense of a space that evoked a playful whimsy while having an overarching mechanical quality. I wanted to arrive at a fairy-tail aesthetic, while maintaining (in practical terms) fluidity for scene changes.

I took inspiration from Miyazaki's Howl’s Moving Castle. The set incorporated intricate, layered textures and dynamic, movable elements, enhancing the story’s fantastical atmosphere. This modular design allowed for quick transformations, ensuring a visually engaging experience without disrupting the performance’s rhythm.

In my other role as protagonist, I navigated the space as a performer; interacting with the world I helped build. The set was crafted to be lived in, manipulated, and reshaped in real time, reinforcing the story’s themes of change and resilience.
